“Anne White’s delightful mystery, set around historic Lake George, is a lively puzzler worthy of Agatha Christie. Tightly plotted, with more red herrings than a can of sardines, SECRETS DARK AND DEEP is White’s best yet.”

—Julia Spencer-Fleming, Edgar finalist and author of ALL MORTAL FLESH.

LAKE GEORGE

Secrets Dark and Deep
A Lake George Mystery

by Anne White

Reviewer Betty Webb calls Mayor Loren Graham “compassionate and savvy, likeable and witty without crossing the line into terminal cuteness. Emerald Point couldn’t ask for a better mayor.” Mystery Scene #96, Fall 2006.

Mayor Loren Graham recognizes an ultimatum when she hears one, so when Sheriff’s Investigator Jim Thompson insists she stay out of law enforcement business, she resolves to do so. But after a stranger drags her out on a cold fall night to show her a skeleton, Loren is caught up in a mystery which threatens to blow the lid off a 30-year-old-secret.

Author Millicent Halstead has returned to Lake George, confident everyone’s forgotten her youthful role in wild goings-on dubbed sexcapades by an old scandal sheet. But Millicent’s former friends haven’t forgotten and neither has local bat expert Arthur Blake or his reclusive mother Victoria. And even though Loren doesn’t mean to get involved, she stumbles on a terrible secret which puts her own life on the line and forces her to confront her greatest fear.
